Frequently Asked Questions about Registration

Q: Why do I have an Academic Department hold on my MyMav account and what does it mean?

A: An Academic Department hold means that you must meet with an advisor to plan your schedule so that you can register for classes.

Q: How do I register for classes?

A: Please see our Registration Instructions information sheet for a step-by-step guide.

Q: What does Census Date mean?

A: Census Date is the last day to drop a class without it going on your record as a W (or Q if you drop all of your classes). To see the Census Date for each semester, please view the Academic Calendar.

Q: Should I drop my class if I'm not doing well?

A: Please talk to an advisor about your options – keep in mind that there is a Last Day to Drop each semester, which can be found on the Academic Calendar.

Q: How many classes can I drop?

A: If you started college at a Texas public college or university in Fall 2006 or afterwards, then you are allowed 6 class drops for your college career. This only counts for grades of W.
