Cynthia Bing, M.A., LPC, NCC

Director

Cynthia Bing is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with 15 years experience in college counseling and seven years experience coordinating services to meet the developmental and psychological needs of college students. She is experienced working with students to address a variety of concerns related to college adjustment and mental health.

Adria Villarreal, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist

Assistant Director

Dr. Adria Villarreal earned her degree in Counseling Psychology from Texas Woman's University and has seven years of experience in college counseling and mental health settings. Her areas of expertise include providing individual and group counseling to students struggling with a variety of mental health and adjustment issues, including depression, anxiety, grief and loss and relationship issues. Areas of particular interest include trauma recovery and gender and diversity issues in mental health.

Bruce L. Bower, MSW, LCSW

Counseling Specialist IV

Bruce Bower is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with more than 20 years experience providing counseling and psychotherapy to adults. He also has taught classes in psychology and social work at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Bruce holds a Master of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. His areas of expertise include depression, anxiety and trauma recovery. His particular areas of interest include grief and loss and how adult attachment concerns can affect school and work performance.

Vickie Goins, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist

Counseling Specialist IV, Coordinator of Outreach Services

Dr. Vickie Goins has more than seven years of experience in university and community nonprofit mental health settings. She enjoys working with students in an individual or group setting to address a variety of mental health and adjustment issues, including anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, grief/loss and trauma recovery. Particular areas of interest include relationship violence, gender socialization, eating disorders and family of origin issues.

Claudia Thompson, M.A., L.P.C., L.M.F.T.

Counseling Specialist IV

Claudia Thompson joins UT Arlington with a graduate degree in counseling psychology. She has worked with adolescents and adults in individual, couple, group and family therapy. Her counseling experience is varied and includes anxiety, anger management, trauma, depression, suicide prevention, relationships, eating and body image concerns and personal growth. As a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (ASSECT), Claudia is interested in human sexuality and healthy sexual behavior.

Michael Arnold, Psy.D. MACL.

Counseling Specialist IV

Dr. Michael Arnold earned degrees in Clinical Psychology and Christian Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. His areas of expertise include working with couples experiencing relational conflict and also with individuals dealing with transitional difficulty, identity formation issues, interpersonal concerns, and spiritual issues. His particular areas of interest are sports psychology, relational intimacy, and communication skills.

Anita Varghese, Ph.D.

Counseling Specialist IV

Dr. Anita Varghese earned her degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Texas. She has provided therapy and psychological assessment services in college, community mental health, and independent practice settings. She is experienced in working with individuals of varying age, racial/ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds to address a broad spectrum of concerns. Her personal areas of interest include cultural conflicts and adjustment, diversity issues, depression, self-esteem, grief/loss, and trauma/abuse recovery.

Cynthia Manzano, MSW, LCSW 

Counseling Specialist III

 Ms. Manzano earned her Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Social Work from Columbia University in New York City and her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Brown University in Providence, RI. She has been employed at the University of Texas at Arlington Counseling Services since April 2011. Ms. Manzano is also an Adjunct Instructor at Eastfield College and teaches classes within the Social Work Department. Prior to joining UTA she was a Clinical Social Worker for FEGS Child and Family Clinic in the Bronx, NY. Her work involved providing individual, group, and family therapy to high school students.  She also has several years of experience working in community mental health centers providing services to diverse populations. Ms. Manzano has worked internationally providing Child Protective Services.  Her particular areas of interest include relationship issues, gender and diversity issues, depression, self-esteem issues, and family of origin issues.
