First Day of Classes

Congratulations on completing your first day of college! The journey ahead will be both exciting and filled with new experiences. As you begin your studies, know that UT Arlington is committed to your academic success. University College is made up of various departments that have many resources available to you to help you with your coursework and academic achievement. Whether it is advising, tutoring, supplemental instruction, freshman interest groups, or academic workshops, University College has the resource for you.

University College Mission Statement

University College promotes student learning and development by providing coordinated and centralized academic resources and support services that help students define their educational goals and pursue a path toward graduation.

In addition, University College serves as a focal point for campus programming that helps first-year students successfully transition to college life and meet the academic challenges set by faculty.

Start Strong

UT Arlington is pleased to announce the Start Strong First-Year Tutoring Program, providing up to six (6) hours of free tutoring in selected courses offered during the fall and spring semester for all first-time, full-time students.

Here's what you need to know about this program:

  • Students must register for and complete their first hour of tutoring by September 23, 2016. To register, visit University Tutorial & Supplemental Instruction in Ransom Hall, Suite 205.

  • Upon completion of your first tutoring appointment you will receive five (5) hours of additional free tutoring to be used during the Fall 2016 semester.  Unused hours will not roll-over to the next semester.

  • Free tutoring is available for the following selected courses:

    • Biology 1345/1441/1442

    • Chemistry 1441/1442/1451/1465

    • Computer Science Engineering 1310

    • Economics 2305/2306

    • Engineering 1300

    • English 0300/1301/1302

    • Geology 1301/1302

    • History 1311/1312

    • Math 0311/1312/1301/1302/1303/1308/1315/1316/1325/1327/1421/1426

    • Physics 1441/1442/1443/1444

    • Political Science 2311/2312

    • Psychology 1315

    • Spanish 1441/1442

    • Sociology 1311

    • Study Skills

  • If you wish to receive tutoring beyond your six free hours, or if you need tutoring in a course not listed on the free course list, tutoring is available for $6.50/hr.

Welcome Week

Maverick Stampede (Welcome Week) is the official kick-off to the new academic year.  During Welcome Week, which coincides with the first week of classes, you'll experience a number of fun and exciting programs centered on integrating new and returning students back to campus.

Success Series

University College Programs invites all students to join "The Success Series", a workshop series designed to improve academic performance and enhance important life skills. Each semester, various departments within University College will offer innovative, hands-on workshops on a variety of topics, such as time management, study skills, dealing with stress, learning styles, major exploration, and more.
