McNair Scholars Program
The McNair Scholars Program, which supports undergraduate research for first-generation/low-income or underrepresented ethnicities* and offers help with the graduate school application process, encourages faculty participation at various levels. Faculty may engage in the McNair program by:
- Referring talented students that desire to pursue the Ph.D.
- Writing letters of recommendation for program applicants.
- Serving on the McNair Faculty Selection Committee (members assist with the evaluation of program candidates).
- Becoming a mentor, an essential role during the summer research internship (mentors receive a modest stipend).
Please contact our program if you would like to become involved or if you have any questions. There is more information about the McNair Scholars Program including guidelines for participation, applications, current and precious participants, and services included in the program at our website.
*Ethnic groups underrepresented in graduate education: African-American, Hispanic, Native American
