TSI Testing
A student may also take one of the following state approved TSI tests to meet TSI requirements:
THEA/TASP (since 9/1/95) R-230 W-220 M-230 [TASP (before 9/1/95) R-220 W-220 M-220]
COMPASS R-81 W-6 or 5/59 M-39 (Algebra)
ASSET R-41 W-6 or 5/40 M-38 (Elem.Alg)
ACCUPLACER R-78 W-6 or 5/80 M-63 (Elem.Alg.)
MAPS R-114 W-6 or 5/310 M-613 (Elem.Alg.)
To Test for TSI at UT Arlington
Register online for the Quick THEA or Accuplacer through UT Arlington's Testing Services.
Students who are not exempt from TSI requirements by other means must take the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) or the Accuplacer test. At this point, The University of Texas at Arlington does accept scores from other assessments such as the Compass and Asset tests.
The minimum Quick THEA test scores to satisfy TSI requirements at UT Arlington are:
- Reading - 230 (270 for Education majors)
- Writing - 220
- Math - 230
The minimum Accuplacer test scores to satisfy TSI requirements at UT Arlington are:
- Reading - 78
- Writing - 6 (or a 5 with a score of 80 or better on Sentence Skills taken at the same examination)
- Elementary Algebra - 63
For In-State students who are outside of the DFW area or for Out-of-State Students: Please email Testing Services (testing@uta.edu) to request a testing and application packet for testing in your home state. In the email, be sure to include your name, your Mav ID number, and in the subject line, note: Out-of-State/Out-of-Area Testing for TSI.
