TSI Exemption

To find out if you need to take a test to meet the TSI requirement,  (TSI Exemptions) or you may contact the University Advising office at (817) 272-3140 or the TSI Advisor at tsi@uta.edu

  • You must take a test that meets the TSI requirement before enrolling in any college coursework.
  • If you are seeking admission to a state-approved educator preparation program, you should contact the teacher certification officer at your campus for information about when to take the THEA Quick Test.  (UT Arlington College of Education and Health Professions).

To meet the TSI requirement, you must pass all three sections (reading, mathematics and writing). You must participate in a developmental education program for those sections of the test that you have not passed until all institutional requirements are satisfied. Once you pass a section of the test, you do not have to take that section again. If you do not pass one or more sections, you may register again and take only the sections of the test that you have not already passed.

ACCUPLACER (UT Arlington students ONLY)

The purpose of these tests are to help determine your level of skill in one or more academic areas.  The scores you will receive will be used to assist in determining the most appropriate course for you.The ACCUPLACER is a multiple choice computer adaptive test which meets the TSI requirement.  The test includes 4 sections: Writing, Sentence Skills, Reading and Math. Writing and Sentence Skills must be taken at the same time. For a description of the test and sample questions, visit the Accuplacer website.

  • Total testing time for all sections of the ACCUPLACER is three hours. Scores, available at the end of the testing session are for UT Arlington only.  We will not send your scores to another school.  UT Arlington students must obtain a certified copy of the TSI score report from the Registrar's Office for any other institution.
  • Fee: $40 - All 4 sections; $40 - Writing + 1 section; $30 - Writing Only; $30 - Math & Reading; $15 - Math or Reading
  • Test is offered Monday - Friday throughout the year. Some evening hours are available.
  • Advance Registration Required.
ACCUPLACER Registration

Register at utatesting.timetrade.com. You must have your 10-digit UTA ID number to register.

If you do not live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, please contact our office about taking the Accuplacer at your local college or university testing center.

THEA Quick Test (QTHEA) - TSI and Teacher Education Programs

The QTHEA is a five-hour, paper-based exam.  Registration can be done online up until 24 hours prior to the test date. Capacity is limited for each test date. It is expected that these dates will fill up quickly, so you should register as soon as possible.  UT Arlington is a paper based test site not an internet based test (ibt) site.

Register at utatesting.timetrade.com

Fee:  $10 administration fee payable to UT Arlington (due when you register) and $29 payable to Evaluations Systems Group (Bring with you on test date, using check, money order, Visa or MasterCard).

Non UT-Arlington students register at nonstudents.utatesting.timetrade.com

No Standbys - you must be registered to take the test.

Check-In Requirements

You should report to the published location, at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the test. If you do not arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the test, you may forfeit your registration. You must bring a payment of $29 in the form of a check or money order made payable to Evaluation Systems Group, or you may pay using Visa or MasterCard. NO CASH!

Test Procedures

You must have current, valid photo identification to be admitted to the exam.  Examples of acceptable id are:  Passport, Driver's License, Student ID Card, Employee ID Card, Military ID.

You will not be admitted to the test without the proper identification and payment. You will be asked to complete a registration form after you report to the test.

Score Information

Final scores are posted approximately seven business days after you take the THEA Quick Test. To see if your University has received your scores, contact your Admissions office or the test company at (512) 927-5397.

If you failed any THEA section, you will be required to register for and attend developmental education. Your advisor can access your THEA scores and advise you with regard to developmental coursework.

TO CHANGE/MODIFY APPOINTMENT

Must change/modify at least 24 hours in advance.

Sign in to Timetrade with your user name & password that you previously created.

"View Test Appointment"

Click on Modify Test Appointment

Click on Next (located on the bottom right of screen)

Pick new date & time

Click Next

Verify information

Click Make Test Appointment (located on the bottom right of screen)

As long as you modify your appointment your payment will be current.  If you CANCEL your appointment your will need to repay the fee.
