Texas Success Initiative (TSI)

Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state law that requires all Texas public institutions, including UT Arlington, to determine college readiness in Reading, Writing, and Math for all degree-seeking undergraduate students, both on campus and online.

Your TSI Status

You can view your TSI status in your MyMav account (MyMav Student Center -> TSI Status Link under Admissions bar).

TSI Status Definitions

-TSI Complete = you have met all TSI requirements and do not need to take further action

-TSI Not Complete = you have attempted the TSI Assessment test and have failed one or more sections; developmental coursework is required

-TSI Liable = you must take the TSI Assessment test in the area(s) for which you are not already Complete/Not Complete; you must test before you can enroll in classes

TSI Exemptions

-A list of TSI exemptions can be found here.

-If you believe that you qualify for an exemption, please email tsi@uta.edu for a review of your TSI status. Make sure to send the email from your UTA email account and provide your full name and UTA ID number.

TSI Assessment Test

If you are TSI Liable and do not have exemptions, you will need to take the TSI Assessment sections for the area(s) in which you are Liable (Math, Reading, and/or Writing).  If you are not sure what sections you need to take, what exemptions believe you qualify for but may not be in the MyMav system, or if previous college credit can be used instead of taking the TSI Assessment, you must email a TSI Advisor at tsi@uta.edu for advising on the TSI Assessment.  Please make sure you have submitted all test scores, transcripts, or other documentation that you believe may exempt you from taking the test as the TSI Advisors will not be able to advising you without that documentation.  Once you know what sections you need to take, please go to the Testing Services website to register for the test.
