Alternative Breaks

Alternative Spring Break is an opportunity for students to travel to different communities to participate in weeklong community service projects and learn more about issues such as literacy, poverty, racism, hunger, homelessness and the environment. While making a difference in these communities, students have the chance to learn about the problems faced by members in the community with whom they otherwise may not have had contact. We believe that the service, discovery, and learning process that takes place during the Alternative Spring Break program provides a one of a kind experience, which serves as a catalyst to lifelong citizenship.

2013 Trips

Essential2Life - Atlanta, Georgia

Essential2Life in Atlanta Georgia is a well-known organization that provides immediate care for the poor and at-risk youth in the inner city area. For this weeklong trip, students will work in a variety of projects that deal with these issues such as: the Salvation Army, a national organization that helps shelter and feed the poor. The Food bank is a non-profit organization that helps provide food for many underprivileged families. Students will also be assisting at other homeless shelters in the Atlanta area. The afternoons will be spent going to elementary schools and tutoring at-risk children. TOTAL COST — $350.00

Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless - Cincinnati, Ohio

Students will be exploring issues related to homelessness, volunteer at agencies that help those who are homeless, and have a chance to explore the city. TOTAL COST — $350.00

Plateau Restoration-Moab, Utah

Students will be exploring issues related to plateau restoration of the Colorado River, sleep in cabins, and have a chance for outdoor activities, such as hiking and rafting (weather permitting). TOTAL COST — $350.00
