UTA history professor awarded Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers

Patryk Babiracki, an associate professor in the UTA Department of History, has been awarded a Humboldt Fellowship for Experience Researchers from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Babiracki will spend 18 months in Berlin working on his fellowship.

Shannon Beston, a third-year UTA Ph.D. student in biology, was selected to receive funds from the National Science Foundation’s Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants program to further her research into how brains and eyes evolved in response to predation among populations of killifish, Rivulus hartii, found in the waters of the Caribbean off the island of Trinidad.

New views on disease

Researchers at UTA have discovered that diet changes and early diagnosis could help outcomes for patients with Glucose Transporter Type 1 Deficiency, a rare pediatric neurological disorder that can cause motor developmental problems and trigger seizures and epilepsy. The journal JAMA Neurology published this research.

The American Society of Mass Spectrometry has named Saiful Chowdhury, UTA assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry, as one of the leading emerging investigators worldwide for his work developing new techniques using mass spectrometry to differentiate protein modifications linked to cancer and aging.

Dr. Teik C. Lim, Dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati (UC), will be the next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of UTA. Lim will work in close partnership with the President to provide overall leadership for the campus.
