The UTA Libraries received a $25,000 TexTreasures grant to scan 15,000 negatives from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram photographic collection. The project continues an effort started last year to digitize negatives documenting the transformation of Fort Worth during World War II.

Undergraduates find “transformative experience” through UTA’s sponsorship of new undergraduate research programs

Transformative experience

Peter Zotor studies biochemistry at UTA and plans to attend medical school. One of the first cohort of 21 undergraduates who received $3,000 to pursue undergraduate research over the summer, he described the new UTA-sponsored Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program as a “transformative experience.”

The University of Texas at Arlington’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People student chapter received the College Chapter of the Year award for the second year in a row at the 108th NAACP National Convention in Baltimore.

UTA chemistry professor awarded Talanta Medal for outstanding contributions to analytical chemistry

International recognition

Purnendu “Sandy” Dasgupta, the Hamish Small Chair of Ion Analysis in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UTA, has been named recipient of the 2017 Talanta Medal, an international award that recognizes world leaders in the analytical chemistry field.

Water agencies' funded pipe research could lead to standards used in future infrastructure

The Tarrant Regional Water District and Water Research Foundation have issued a grant to a UTA civil engineering professor that will model large-diameter water transmission pipes in various types of soil. Results could lead to modeling standards in the industry.
