Bright minds and distinctive personalities thrive at UT Arlington. Why? Because people here are free to be themselves — not just in name, but in their very nature. They’re inquisitive, creative, determined and innovative. They’re mavericks. Below are a few mavericks — students, alumni, faculty and staff — whose profiles have been featured on the UT Arlington home page.
Brad Loper
Picture perfect
Alumnus Brad Loper has walked down the tunnel at Lambeau Field alongside Brett Favre, won a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of Hurricane Katrina and been on the floor of the 2004 and 2008 Republican National Conventions.
Anthony Vereen
Time to play the game
Basketball stand-out Anthony Vereen is back this season as UT Arlington is picked to win the West Division of the Southland Conference in a poll of league coaches.
Lisa Meredith
Destined for success
Lisa Meredith almost didn’t make it to college. But when she did, she qualified for the most prestigious scholarship UT Arlington awards to entering freshmen.
Ken Roemer
Utopia found
English Professor Ken Roemer was presented the Lyman Tower Sargent Award for Distinguished Scholarship by the Society for Utopian Studies Conference for his lifetime of work in utopian studies.
Kristin Kyser
Bearing fruit
“Moving from a small town, I was scared about meeting people,” said Kristin Kyser (’07 BA). Joining the Leadership Commonwealth freshman interest group, designed for high school leaders who want to expand their skills in college, smoothed the transition.
