Administrators appointed to interim positions

Tuition deregulation, increased admission standards and managing growth with constrained resources are among the issues facing UTA in the short term, says Dana Dunn, who was named interim provost in August.

She replaced George Wright, who left to become president of Prairie View A&M University. Dr. Dunn will continue as vice president for academic affairs, a position she has held since 2000.

Dr. Wright had been provost since 1995 and added the title of executive vice president for academic affairs in 2000. Dan Williams, former senior vice president for finance and administration, joined Wright at Prairie View A&M, where he's the chief financial officer.

Interim President Charles Sorber filled Williams' position with two appointments--John Hall as interim vice president for administration and campus operations, and Rusty Ward as interim vice president for business affairs and controller.

Hall was most recently associate vice president for finance and operations. His new duties include administrative oversight of construction projects, facilities use agreements, architectural contracts and several campus departments, including Housing and the Physical Plant.

Ward, who had been the associate vice president for finance and controller, now oversees business services, capital asset management, employee services, budgets, financial planning, revenue forecasting, open records and other areas.

Any decision on the permanency of interim appointments will await the arrival of UTA's new president, Dr. Sorber said.
