Portrait of a UTA Family
The Taylor family's association with UTA and its preceding institutions began in 1911. It continues today through Lloyd Clark and his granddaughter, sophomore Alida Eggen.

Laughing with Liz

Liz Carpenter, a former aide to President Lyndon B. Johnson and press secretary to Lady Bird Johnson, spoke at an April luncheon sponsored by the UTA Women’s Studies Program. Among the bon mots from the 80-year-old Carpenter:

On leaving Washington, D.C.:
“I was yet another valuable relic taken from the White House without permission.”

Recollections of arriving in the nation’s capital in 1942:
“I was there before Strom Thurmond.”

On a long-winded speech by
Minnesota Sen. Hubert Humphrey:
“Senator, if your watch has
stopped, there’s a calendar
behind you.”
