KING OF THE COURT. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has named senior Andy Leber the Region VI Player of the Year and Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership award winner for 2002. Leber, ranked second in the nation for much of the season, also received the Dan McGill Senior Award as the nation's best senior tennis player. The Austrian native, who earned his third consecutive Southland Conference Player of the Year award, went 23-0 during the spring. His No. 2 ranking is the highest ever achieved by a UTA tennis player....

MAKING RACKET. The men's and women's tennis teams posted undefeated SLC regular-season records in 2002. Patric DuBois was named men's Coach of the Year, and Christian Wassmer was named women's Coach of the Year. Junior Marketa Cizova received women's Player of the Year honors after going 10-0 in conference play....

ON COURSE. The golf team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament after finishing in the top eight in every tournament during the 2001-02 season. Senior Shad Muth was a first-team All-SLC selection, and sophomore Luke Main made the second team....

HATS OFF TO CAPPS. Women's basketball coach Donna Capps was named the SLC Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Mavericks to a 13-14 overall record and 12-8 mark in SLC play last season. The team finished fourth in the conference, a dramatic improvement from the previous year's 10th-place 4-16 showing. Second-team All-SLC selections Sheena Johnson and Rola Ogunoye sparked the turnaround. Johnson, a sophomore center, led the conference in rebounding and ranked 10th in the nation at 11.2 per game. Ogunoye, a freshman forward, led the team in scoring and ranked sixth in the SLC at 13 points per game....

PLENTY GOOD. Former basketball standout Julie Goodenough has been named head women's basketball coach at Oklahoma State University. Goodenough, the former Julie Roewe, coached at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene for the last nine seasons. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from UTA in 1991 and is 13th on the school's all-time scoring list....

SPECIAL TRIBUTE. The SLC executive committee has voted to name its baseball Coach of the Year award after former UTA coach Clay Gould, who died of cancer last June. In his second year as coach, Gould led the Mavericks to 39 victories and a berth in the NCAA tournament in 2001. He played for the Mavericks from 1990 to 1993, earning the SLC Player of the Year award his senior season....

REPEAT PERFORMANCE. Senior Ashely Dorsey placed seventh at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March, earning her second consecutive All-America designation. Dorsey, who holds every school and SLC shot put record, qualified for the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a throw of 54 feet, 11 1/2 inches.
