Dapper Daniel

Matt DanielAssistant men’s basketball coach Matt Daniel never thought of himself as a particularly sharp-dressed man. “I didn’t even know I had a sense of style,” he says. “I’m just kind of an off-the-rack guy.” But Daniel’s duds caught the attention of the fashion folks at collegeinsider.com, a trade Web site for coaches. Angela Lento, who runs the site, created the Runway to the Fashionable Four several years ago to recognize head coaches for dressing stylishly. This year Lento, who picks the winners herself, added a 64-coach bracket for assistants. Daniel, seeded 10th in the Midwest Region, upset Illinois-Chicago’s Lynn Mitchem in the first round before losing to second-seeded Tony Jones of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. “It’s flattering to be involved,” said the 27-year-old Daniel, one of approximately 1,000 assistant coaches in NCAA Division I men’s basketball. “I try to do the best I can with what I have, which is not a lot.”
