University receives highest Carnegie classification
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has placed UTA in the Doctoral/ Research Extensive category in its latest classification of American higher education.

Enrollment surges past 20,000
Enrollment reached a four-year high in the fall, topping 20,000 for the first time since 1996.



 



Jerry W. Thomas

Jerry W. Thomas, chairman and president of Decision Analyst, Inc., graduated from Arlington State College (now UTA) in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

The following year, he earned an M.B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin. As an ROTC cadet at Arlington State, Thomas was honored as a distinguished military student, deputy commander of the ROTC Corps of Cadets, and the ROTC trainfire rifle champion.

He was named to the All-America pistol team and was the top cadet in the Southwest at ROTC boot camp. Thomas began his business career in a management trainee program at Hallmark Cards. He later moved into brand management with Anderson Clayton Foods, handling marketing and budget responsibilities for major national and international brands.

In 1969, he took a position with MARC, at the time the country's largest marketing research firm, where he became senior vice president. He left MARC in 1978 to establish Decision Analyst in Arlington. Over the past 22 years, the company has become an international marketing research and consulting firm with more than 200 employees.

Major corporate clients have included Nestle Beverage, Chiquita, Heinz, Texas Instruments, Apple Computer, Tandy, American Airlines and Bank of America. The company specializes in advertising testing systems, product testing systems, packaging research, new product research, consumer tracking systems and strategy development research. Today, Decision Analyst is also an industry leader in the development of Internet-based research panels and related technologies.

In addition to his professional career, Thomas has chaired the advisory board for UTA's master of science in marketing research program since 1994. Thomas and his wife, Betty, have three children and live in Arlington.
