University receives highest Carnegie classification
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has placed UTA in the Doctoral/ Research Extensive category in its latest classification of American higher education.

Enrollment surges past 20,000

UTA career: Earned a B.S. in biology in 1979 and a teaching certificate in 1997. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Honor in 1998.


Occupation:
Embarking on a teaching career after spending time in the Marines and the private security business. He's currently substitute teaching in Birdville and Keller.


Olympic career: Finished ninth in the 100-meter breaststroke for the United States at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.


Most vivid Olympic memory: "It definitely would be walking into the stadium during the Opening Ceremonies. Being able to watch the two people run in and light the flame was very exciting."
