The volleyball team earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1990 by defeating Stephen F. Austin in five games in the Southland Conference Tournament championship match last fall.

Junior outside hitter Carol Bozikis was named the SLC Tournament's most valuable player. Joining her on the all-tournament team were freshman setter Heather Dunn and junior outside hitter Amber Pack.

The Lady Mavericks (22-12), who struggled early in conference play, won 17 of 18 matches before falling to Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

UTA loses only one senior from the 2001 team.
