2011 Faculty and Staff Holiday Reception

President James D. Spaniolo shared his version of “The Night Before Christmas” with a Maverick twist at the Faculty-Staff Holiday Reception.

Speedy Mavericks

Every year our Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) team designs, builds, and races cars at competitions around the globe. Mechanical and aerospace engineering Professor Robert Woods talks about what it takes to win the challenging competition, while Lena Gerry, the Formula SAE team captain, takes us through this year’s project.

Stallions of School Spirit

Each year incoming freshmen decorate white fiberglass horses in Maverick orange and blue. The horses are then placed in a prominent place on campus. Watch this year’s horse being adorned as students discuss what participating in the art installation means for them, the student body, and the University as a whole.

Damage Control

Research by UT Arlington scientists and engineers shows promise in mitigating the types of earthquake disasters that recently devastated Japan and Haiti. Anand Puppala, Simon Chao, Pamela Jansma, and Glen Mattioli share insights of what they’ve gleaned from their explorations.

Hooping It Up

LaMarcus Reed III, the top returning scorer for the Mavericks, discusses what being a big-time athlete at UT Arlington means to him. A star on the basketball court and in the classroom, Reed already has earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and is pursuing a second degree in economics.
