Haleh Aghajani, Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute (UTARI), division of Biomedical Technologies. Her experience and research interests are focused on biomedical research and development (R&D), bio-signal processing and data analysis, as well as application of a wide range of data science techniques in biomedical and healthcare domain. She also has a comprehensive theoretical knowledge and hand-on experience in neural engineering, functional brain imaging (EEG, fNIRS, etc.), and computational neuroscience techniques. The combination of her academic background and her industrial work experience in electrical engineering sculpted her as an expert in medical device development and prototyping.

Dr. Aghajani received her B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Electronics (2007) from the University of Tehran (Iran) and her M.Sc. in Bioelectric (2012) from the Sharif University of Technology (Iran). During her Ph.D. study in Biomedical Engineering (2013-2017) she was working as a graduate research assistant in Multimodal Brain Imaging Lab at University of Houston, Department of Biomedical Engineering. Her Ph.D. thesis focus was on assessment of human mental workload using concurrent brain imaging systems (EEG+fNIRS). She is a member of professional societies such as IEEE and EMBS, OSA, SPIE, and SfNIRS.

Before joining UTARI, she was one of the study key personnel, working on a multidisciplinary clinical research project at BSWH hospital with the aim of intraoperative fNIRS imaging and identification of functional biomarkers during open-heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) that correlate with subsequent neurocognitive impairment.
