At the beginning of every semester you should check to make sure that you have a supported browser version and the recommended browser settings.

4. How do I remove an old course from myWebCT?

This will be done when your instructor has closed the course.

5. Are there workshops available for students?

A WebCT online tutorial for students is available at http://www.webct.com/service/ViewContent?contentID=5920910 .

6. If I get kicked off the Internet during a timed test will it let me sign back on and resume the test?

Yes, as long as you didn't click on Finish, you can get back into your quiz and can continue taking the test. Please note, though, that the timer will continue running even while you are not on the Internet.

7. I think that WebCT changed my saved Quiz answer.

WebCT will not change your saved Quiz answer.

You do have to make sure that you click on Save Answer after you select, enter or change an answer, though. Once you've selected, entered or changed an answer, promptly click on Save Answer.

8. I think I'm missing messages in the Discussion area of my WebCT course.

You can view your messages in different formats. You're probably looking at your messages in the Threaded format.

If you click on Threaded, you will see your messages listed by message and responses. In this arrangement, you should click on the blue triangle to see all of the responses.

If you click on Unthreaded, you will see your messages listed chronologically.

9. How can I tell if my message properly posted to a discussion topic?

The message listing doesn't automatically update when you post a message. Click on Update Listing to see a current list of messages, including your own.

10. I see my messages listed, but I can't click on them.

Ad blocking software can cause this problem. You may want to try turning disabling it while you're in WebCT.

What typically occurs is that the user clicks on a discussion post to view it, and the window containing the message will not open.

To remedy the problem, the user needs to add UTA’s WebCT server as a trusted site, or temporarily disable the windows pop-up blocker.

To add UTA's WebCT server as a trusted site:

  1. From your menu bar, select Tools >> Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. In the "Select a Web content zone..." area, select Trusted sites.
  4. Click on the Sites... button.
  5. Type in http://webct.uta.edu into the top text field.
  6. Uncheck the "Require server verification..." box.
  7. Click the Add button.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK again.

11. I cannot view this document/media file on my course page/supplemental CD-ROM. Why?

You probably don't have the correct plug-in installed on your computer. Check to see if your instructor has listed which plug-ins you need. We have links to many popular plug-ins here

Also, if you're using Internet Explorer 6.0 SP 1, you may have to add UTA's WebCT server as a trusted site.

12. I entered my user name and password and now I'm asked to enter an Access/Confirmation Code; what is it?

This happens if your instructor purchased an E-Pack, which is a supplemental teaching pack provided by the publisher of your textbook with WebCT. The code should be included within your textbook. If you have any problems with it, check with your instructor.

13. I can't view PowerPoint files using Windows XP.

There is a known issue with PowerPoint 2002 files under Windows XP. The solution is to download and install Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 .

14. Where do I get help if I cannot find answers from the above?
