Desirée Henderson served as the Interim Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program since Fall 2010, and accepted the offer as Program Director in late 2011. She is an associate professor in the English Department, where she specializes in early American literature and women’s writing. She is the author of Grief and Genre in American Literature, 1790-1870 (Ashgate Publishers, 2011), as well as numerous scholarly articles. She is the co-organizer of the Texas Regional SSAWW Study Group. Her hobbies include yoga, reading, playing the piano, and trying to make her pets’ lives as luxurious as possible.

The Women’s and Gender Studies Advisory Board is composed of nine faculty members, seven from the College of Liberal Arts, and two from outside Liberal Arts, who advise the director on the direction and structure of the Women's and Gender Studies Program. Board members serve three year, non-consecutive terms. Elections are held every Spring. If you are interested in applying to be on the Advisory Board, please contact the program director.
