We would like to invite you to be a community sponsor of UTA’s Women’s Studies Program. We offer several programs during the year which enhance professional development among students, staff and faculty. In addition, our programs offer opportunities for community involvement on the University of Texas at Arlington Campus. We sponsor three main programs each year.

Each November our annual Expanding Your Horizons in Math & Science Conference (EYH) is held at the University of Texas at Arlington. The purpose of the conference is to introduce young women in grades 6, 7, and 8 to career opportunities in mathematics, science, and technology.

The goals of the EYH Conference are to increase young women’s interest in math and science, foster awareness of career opportunities in math- and science-related careers, and provide young women with opportunities to meet and interact with positive role models who are active in math and science related careers. The first EYH Conference in Arlington was held in 1993. Since that time approximately 4,000 young women have had the opportunity to see the exciting careers that are open to them if they continue to pursue their mathematics and science education. Each year 250 adults showed their support for these young women by investing a day as volunteers or presenters/role models.

The Women’s History Month Lecture Series has been held for 18 consecutive years. Held in March of each year the month-long lecture series brings local and nationally recognized scholars and performers to campus to give public lectures or performances on women’s issues.

Our Annual Friends of Women’s Studies Luncheon is now in its 7th year. Held in April, the luncheon is designed to appeal to those in the university and community who may not normally attend Women’s Studies events. The speaker often has a book signing in conjunction with the lunch. Our past speakers have been Liz Carpenter, press aide to Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson, Texas writer Prudence Macintosh, and author Marion Winik.
