Position: Architecture Design

Job Summary

Wanted: Help designing my new home. No code restrictions. Tight budget. PARTICIPANT must be creative with knowledge of construction/ material costs. Out-of-the-box thinker a plus. Design mindset: Conservative living area w/ LARGE attached garage and storage area. High tech traditional or modern super efficiency. Creative utilitarian. Beauty in simplicity.

First stage: Design weather tight, single story shell. (I want to do this on a cash basis, so low cost/ efficient design is a must utilizing traditional trade skills with DIY opportunities. (I will live there while completing interior build out.) I'm considering a metal barndominium but open to suggestions, ie. Dome home. Design must be aesthetically pleasing, high wind/ storm resistant, with clean lines, and low maintenance. Will compromise higher up front construction costs for long term durability and low maintenance.

Building Site/ No Restrictions: 10 acres, level ground country setting. Some mature native trees along perimeter of property. Views of open pasture and big sky. All utilities will be underground. This is a rural location outside city limits so no code restrictions. However, construction plans must prove quality and marketability for resell when necessary. This will be my permanent residence.

Minimum Size/ Needs: Conservative living space with very large garage/ storage space (see notes below). LIVING AREA: Modest 2 bedrooms w/ closets, 1.5 baths w/ linen closets, full kitchen w/ decent size pantry, full size appliances w/ washer & dryer, dominant living/ dining area. Privacy for bed/ bath areas. Inside access to garage. ADA access and doorways. GARAGE: Accommodation for 2 cars, motorcycle, an aircraft (27' wingspan and 17' long) that will need a 30' opening for in/out storage access. Possible 2 one car garage doors (8'x8') and a 30'x8' folding door for the aircraft (and other uses).

For resistance to high wind loads, domes and round structures seem to have advantages. If a dome design is proposed it should be set atop vertical walls. I'm currently considering a round building 52' in diameter, 2122 sq ft area, equally divided with 1061 sq ft for living area and 1062 sq ft storage/ garage. Standard wall high throughout, vaulted ceilings a plus if attic storage impractical, 3:1 roof pitch (less pitch if possible- snow load?)

Would like to consider advanced architect student that could use this as an academic project and earn extra money, or a graduate looking to build portfolio. Will pay cash for hourly consultation and flat fee for design/ construction drawings. Must be reasonable and provide references.
