A design submitted by alumnus Paul Dennehy (’80 BS, Architecture), and Professor Don Gatzke and Lecturer Dennis Chiessa of the School of Architecture, was selected as the winning entry in the Tandy Hills Pavilion Design Competition. A panel of judges, working without knowledge of the 20 submitting teams, selected the winning design.

A statement from the design team notes: “The structure aims to connect the interior hiking areas of the park to the more public areas, to the neighborhood, and to the city. The long linear structure reveals itself to the front of the park and the neighborhood as an inviting gesture to explore the entire park. As one approaches and enters the pavilion views are obstructed and revealed by the structure. The pavilion terminates on group gathering area with panoramic views of the park and the city. This pavilion is an attempt to inspire visitors to reflect as the city grows and efforts to protect areas such as Tandy Hills become increasingly important.”

Tandy Hills is a 160-acre indigenous prairie remnant located in Fort Worth. It has been designated a natural area since 1987 and contains more than 600 native plant species.
