A New Era - Introducing the New CAPPA Dean

College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs is delighted to announce Dr. Ming-Han Li has accepted the position of the Dean of the college and will assume his new role on August 1st. Dr. Ming-Han Li currently serves as the Director and Professor at the Michigan State University School of Planning, Design, and Construction. Dr. Li oversees four professional programs; construction management, interior design, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning. He also leads the Ph.D. program in planning, design, and construction; and the National Charrette Institute. His strategic vision, innovative thinking, and dedication to fostering inclusive environments will elevate CAPPA's local and global standing.

Dr. Li’s administrative responsibilities encompass the overall teaching, research, and outreach missions of the school, including fiscal resources, personnel, infrastructure, program accreditation, fundraising and development, and stakeholder relations. He represents the school’s interests on campus and with key external stakeholders, including alumni, donors, and industry partners. Among his many accomplishments as school director, he led and completed the school’s 2020-2024 strategic plan, which helped establish a unified school identity and implemented key tactics to execute the plan.
Dr. Li is a distinguished academic leader in landscape architecture and urban planning. With expertise in stormwater management and green infrastructure, Dr. Li has a strong research background. He has received recognition for his contributions to landscape architecture education, named a fellow with the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2019, and was a member of the landscape and environmental design committee of the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies. He earned a Bachelor of Science in agricultural engineering from National Taiwan University, a Master of Science in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Landscape Architecture and Doctor of Philosophy in urban and regional science from Texas A&M University.
The college is excited to welcome Dr. Ming-Han Li joining us on August 1, 2023. As we embark on this exciting new chapter, we want to thank our CAPPA community for supporting our college throughout the last few years and allowing me to sustain its larger vision and goals. It has been a great opportunity to have Dr. Maria Martinez-Cosio serve as Interim Dean since March 2021, and the Impact we have made together as a college is profound. We are confident this new leadership will pave the way for exciting opportunities and continued growth in CAPPA's pursuit of excellence and student success.
