Meet Barkha

UTA was always on the list of schools that I wanted to attend. I could not attend for my undergrad, but coming here for grad school is probably the best decision I have made thus far. The engineering programs and the hands-on learning experience here have been very enlightening. One of the other reasons I chose UTA was community and how they balance education with community engagement so every single student feels like they belong.

I was involved in the Engineering Student Council and volunteered in various events for them. I am also the elected Engineering Senator for the Student Government this year and a member of the United Nations Association, which works toward environmental conservation.

I chose engineering because of my curiosity towards fixing things at an early age. I found it fascinating listening to my dad talk about how he designed structures and how he completed his projects while also enjoying creative freedom wherever needed. These things sparked my interest and I realised this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I have always been intrigued by the things my dad did. When he talked about his work, I listened intently. This was the beginning of my interest in construction. The next thing I knew, I was buying trucks and remote-controlled JCBs for toys. Now that I am studying construction management, I like the idea of doing something that's lasting and impactful.

I hope to gain experience as a civil engineer/construction manager to help create innovative structures that will shape the way for future generations to live. I also plan to work toward introducing more sustainable approaches in the field of construction.
