The College of Engineering Student Stories

Meet Damia
I chose UTA because of its strong, rigorous engineering program. I was looking for a place that would provide an academic challenge and UTA’s reputation aligned perfectly with my goals as a student. I was especially drawn to its focus on hands-on learning and innovation.
Before coming to UTA, I attended Texas Woman’s University, which does not offer engineering. While I valued my time there, I realized that I needed a university with stronger resources and opportunities in engineering and computer science. UTA offered access to advanced coursework, specialized faculty, and a wide range of research opportunities. Transferring to UTA allowed me to fully pursue my academic interests and prepare for a future in technology and research.
During the summer of 2025, I studied abroad in South Korea. It was one of the most impactful academic experiences of my college career. The program challenged me academically and culturally and I gained a global perspective on engineering and technology. The experience strengthened my problem-solving skills and helped me grow as an engineer by exposing me to different approaches to learning. It also reinforced my ability to work independently while remaining flexible in dynamic environments.
Studying abroad also helped me build a strong sense of community through shared experiences with students from diverse backgrounds. Collaborating with international peers taught me how to communicate effectively across cultures. I was very lucky to be surrounded by talented individuals from all over the world. Overall, this experience helped me feel more confident engaging with new communities and contributing positively in collaborative academic and professional spaces.
