The College of Engineering Student Stories

Meet Matilde
I chose to come to UT Arlington because its strong engineering program is a great fit for me. As a commuter, I was happy to find that the UTA environment is very friendly for students who live off campus, especially since it does not require first-year students to live in campus dorms like many other universities I was looking at. I was also looking for a school near a big city like Dallas, but without the traffic that comes with most big cities.
I chose Resource and Energy Engineering due to my interests in science, global politics, and sustainability. REE is a very multidisciplinary major with a variety of mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering classes, which was fitting due to my interest in all of these fields. With the growing demands for energy due to our world populations and technological advancements, I believe my major has a lot of real-life impact that can be applied to a variety of fields. Additionally, there are many routes I can take this major which can have positive impacts on the environment and the economy such as going into nuclear energy, solar power, battery storage, and many more.
After UTA, I hope to dedicate my career to the global shift to renewable/clean energy sources that has only just started. My main goal is to go into the clean energy industry and to work on projects that can balance meeting energy production needs with prioritizing environmental responsibility. With many countries still just starting the transition, I believe there is a big responsibility for engineers in the energy industry to develop solutions for the rising energy demands expected in the next decades. I want to join into these efforts and use my engineering degree to create a more sustainable future for the coming generations.
