Aerospace Engineering Student Selected as ASME Graduate Scholar
Aerospace Engineering Master’s student Aditya Balasubramaniam, supervised by Dr. Liwei Zhang, was selected as a 2026 ASME Fluids Engineering Division Graduate Student Scholar. Only two students are selected for this recognition each year.
The award certificate recognizes each student's technical accomplishments in the field of fluids engineering and provides a scholarship bestowed to the scholarship winners, allowing them to actively participate in the upcoming FEDSM to present their papers.
Earlier this year, Aditya's paper, “Computational Characterization of Geometry and Flowrate Effects in Rotating Detonation Combustors”, was accepted for presentation at the 2026 ASME FEDSM (Fluids Engineering Division Summer Meeting). One week before the conference, he was notified that he had been selected as one of the two Graduate Student Scholars and was invited to attend the meeting in person, which was held July 26-29 in Bellevue, WA.
“It was an incredible honor to participate in this milestone conference celebrating a century of fluid engineering excellence,” said Balasubramaniam. “The highlight of the week was interacting with the incredible community and connecting with brilliant researchers, exchanging ideas, and gaining fresh perspectives on the cutting-edge state of fluid dynamics and CFD.”
Balasubramaniam is looking forward to stepping into his new role as the GSS representative for the Fluid Applications and Systems Technical Committee (FASTC), where he hopes to help shape future conference tracks and reviewing upcoming technical papers.
