The Philosophy Club at UTA
The Philosophy Club meets every Wednesday during the fall and spring semesters at 12:00 p.m. in 313 Carlisle Hall. We have a brief business meeting, which is followed by discussion of some topic of philosophical interest. Around 1:00 p.m., those who are interested go somewhere off campus for lunch.
Philosophy Club Activities
- Co-sponsor Philosophy Lecture Series (invited philosophy professors from other universities speak)
- Sponsor paper presentations by UTA undergrad philosophers
- Sponsor "field trips" to philosophy lectures at other area universities (e.g., to hear John Searle, Robert Nozick at TCU; David Armstrong at SMU)
- Arrange "field trips" to philosophy conferences in the area (e.g. North Texas Philosophical Association)
- Sponsor Philosophy Film Series (on-campus screenings of philosophical films — e.g., Derek Jarman's Wittgenstein)
- Attend (as a group) other philosophical talks on campus (e.g., Martha Nussbaum's Graduate Humanities lecture)
- Participate in Philosophy Reading Group
- Sponsor Spring Philosophy and Classics Picnic
- Organize Weekly Philosophy Club Discussion/Lunch (currently)
- Host Annual Pizza Extravaganza

Do you meet the requirements for membership?
(1) at least sophomore standing
(2) at least two courses in philosophy
(3) a B average or better in all philosophy courses
(4) a B average (3.0 G.P.A.) or better, overall.
Members are eligible to take part in the spring New Member Initiation and Dinner, as well as other activities scheduled during the year — such as, the Phi Sigma Tau Faculty Colloquium Series: Learn more about your professors’ current research!
