UTA Music Professor, Wayman, Named President-Elect of Texas NAfME
Dr. John Wayman, an Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education at The University of Texas at Arlington, has been elected by music teachers across the state of Texas as the President-Elect for the National Association for Music Education – Texas State Board (NAfME-Texas). Bringing 22 years of teaching experience ranging from elementary through collegiate, he feels he can bring a valued perspective to the state and national organizations. NAfME-Texas’ purpose is the advancement of music education in Texas and elsewhere by leading the profession in advocacy at the state and national levels, engaging in professional development to meet student needs, disseminating data-based research, and promoting the understanding and making of music by all.

The power of music contains much aesthetic resonance for the human spirit and correlations to advance intellectual and emotional well-being. It is a tremendous honor to represent and help empower music educators at the state and national levels.”
Dr. Wayman’s research interests include pedagogy and development of the adolescent male voice, teacher preparation and curriculum in music education, and choral success in urban schools. He has served the last seven years on the Music Educators Journal Advisory Board as a reviewer. His work is published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, International Journal of Research in Choral Singing, Teaching Music, Texas Music Educators Journal, Georgia Music News, and Ala Breve: Alabama Music Education Journal. He has presented at numerous conferences, including the NAfME Biennial Conference, Society for Music Teacher Educators, International Society for Music Educators, Pan-African Society for Musical Arts Education, and Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, New Mexico, and Louisiana Music Education Associations.
