Dr. Mary Vaccaro, Distinguished University Professor recently announced that undergraduate student Paula Currie has been selected as a McNair Scholar. On behalf of the entire Art History faculty, Dr. Vaccaro stated, “With great pride and pleasure, I inform you that Paula Currie has been selected to be a McNair Scholar! The McNair Scholars Program is an excellent and highly competitive federal program that prepares first-generation college students to pursue graduate education in all disciplines. Congratulations to Paula Currie!"

Paula is a senior majoring in art education with a minor in art history, as well as being, in her words, “equally passionate about studio art.” After graduating, she is planning to pursue a graduate degree in art history, stating, “I feel that to understand art, one must understand the history behind it.”

She expressed her thanks to the faculty who have mentored her here at UTA saying, “The Art History department at UTA is filled with so many passionate and knowledgeable professors. I wouldn’t be receiving this opportunity if it wasn’t for all the influence you’ve had in my educational journey. I am beyond grateful to be learning from all of you.”

The Art and Art History Department echoes Dr. Vaccaro in congratulating Paula and extending their best wishes for her continued success in future academic and artistic pursuits!
