Financial Aid

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers various scholarships to students to assist them in paying for tuition and other college expenses. Students can apply for these and other scholarships using the Mav ScholarShop system.


Department Scholarships

Here are some of the options for financial aid available to students in the UTA Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry:


Dr. Charles K. Baker Character Fellowship

This award provides financial support to graduate students in chemistry and biochemistry who have demonstrated exceptional character.

Chemistry and Biochemistry Society Excellence Award

These scholarships are awarded to junior- or senior-level students majoring in chemistry or biochemistry who intend to pursue chemistry or biochemistry as a career.

Daniel W. and Linda Armstrong Award Fund

These scholarships are given to outstanding students in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry.

Dennis S. Marynick Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is given to help further the education of an undergraduate student in chemistry or biochemistry who is currently enrolled in or has completed the course CHEM 3322, Physical Chemistry II.

Dr. Duncan and Mrs. Sylvaine Aust Award Fund

This scholarship is given to junior-level students majoring in chemistry who have financial need, a minimum 3.5 GPA, and have demonstrated significant academic progress at UTA.

John T. Murchison Endowed Scholarship Fund

This scholarship provides financial assistance to chemistry and biochemistry students who plan to pursue a degree in medicine and have evidence of a good academic record. Consideration will be given to a student from a single-parent family. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need, which requires completion of the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA). Sharon and Donald L. Jernigan Chemistry Scholarship Fund

These awards are given to undergraduate students majoring in chemistry who are in good academic standing with the College of Science.

Department of Chemistry President Spaniolo Graduate Award Fund

This award is given to senior graduate students in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Doctoral students in the last semester prior to graduation are encouraged to apply.


Dean’s Office Scholarships

In addition to the department scholarships, the College of Science has the following scholarships which are open to chemistry and biochemistry students. Students can apply through Mav ScholarShop and deadlines are generally in late January each year.


Dean’s Excellence Scholarship

This award is given to high-achieving students in the College of Science.

Ann H. Benham Endowed Scholarship

This award is given to deserving undergraduate students in the College of Science.

Dr. Franklyn Alexander Scholarship Fund

Established by Dr. Franklyn Alexander, an Arlington dentist and committed friend of UTA, to provide financial support to College of Science undergraduate or graduate students from small towns. Preference will be given to students from cities with populations of less than 150,000.

Chance Vought Engineering and Science Endowment

These scholarships are awarded based on financial need to one sophomore, one junior, and one senior who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents with minimum GPAs of 2.75 from chemistry & biochemistry, physics, and mathematics. Funds will be used to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics by engaging youth in hands-on engineering activities to demonstrate the challenges and rewards of working in STEM fields. Preference shall be given to students who are from North Texas.

Bobbitt Family Endowed Scholarship for the College of Science

This award is for full-time graduate students pursuing a doctoral degree in the College of Science.
