Fun fact: Is an avid runner

When I was deciding what university to come to for my undergraduate work, UTA really appealed to me because it’s a really research-driven institution. I knew I wanted to get involved in research and I was able to do that during my freshman year. My research professor and faculty mentor, Dr. Joseph Boll, was very welcoming. He allowed me to join his lab as a freshman and I’ve been in his lab ever since. I’ve learned so much being able to participate in research and conducting research projects has been a really transformative experience.

Additionally, I was fortunate to receive a scholarship from the Terry Foundation and having the opportunity to be a Terry Scholar was another thing that led me here. I knew UTA from members of my family and a lot of my friends going here already, so I knew it was an institution that was very welcoming.

A lot of people I know have had amazing experiences at UTA, so I knew I was going to feel welcome here. It’s been so great, just the fact that UTA is so diverse, and the faculty, staff and students are all so welcoming and kind. I’ve never had one negative experience on campus and I’m really thankful for my experience at UTA.

As a pre-medical student, I knew I was going to major in the sciences because that’s what I was interested in. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to focus on at first, but as soon as I took my first microbiology class and started doing research in that area, I knew I wanted to major in both microbiology and biology.

My experience in the Department of Biology has been great. The faculty are so supportive, and I’ve learned so much over the course of my career at UTA. There are so many great services and programs, like supplemental instruction, tutoring, and lots of opportunities for you to grow. If you are struggling or going through something difficult, there are always people here to help you.

Additionally, UTA has a great community in terms of student organizations. There are so many on campus, and if you’re interested in something, there’s probably a student organization for it. I’ve become part of a huge community just through being in student organizations.

Specifically, I’m in the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students and have been involved with it for my entire undergraduate career. I’ve been able to gain so many different skills, like leadership and team management, because I’ve been in so many different officer positions and have taken on increased responsibility as I’ve grown older. Additionally, within student organizations we are able to make a bigger difference on our UTA campus and beyond by giving back to our community together.

Overall, I think just making lifelong friends has been such an important part of my time here at UTA.I am very thankful to have made friends here who I’m going to be friends with my whole life.

Dato curioso: Le gusta correr por diversion

Cuando estaba decidiendo en cual universidad estudiar mi pregrado, UTA me intereso mucho porque es una universidad que tiene un enfoque en investigación muy amplio. Yo sabía que quería ser parte de un programa de investigación y sabía que en UTA podía ser parte de un programa de investigación desde mi primer año. Mi profesor de investigación y mentor, Dr Joseph Boll, fue muy amable. El me dejo ser parte del laboratorio de investigación desde el primer a o y desde eso soy parte del programa. He aprendido mucho participando en el programa de investigación además he aprendido a dirigir proyectos de investigación, ha sido una experiencia valiosa.

Por otra parte, tuve la suerte de recibir una beca de Terry Foundation, tener la oportunidad de ser uno de los estudiantes financiados por Terry Foundation fue otra cosa que me ayudo a estar acá. Sabia de UTA porque algunos familiares y amigos estudian acá, por eso se que era una institución que acoge a todos.

Algunas personas que conozco han tenido una experiencia maravillosa en UTA, por eso sabia que me iba a sentir bienvenida acá. Ha sido genial, ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora porque UTA es una universidad que tiene gran diversidad, los profesores, trabajadores y estudiantes son muy amables. Nunca he tenido una experiencia negativa en el campus, estoy muy agradecida por mi experiencia en UTA.

Como estudiante de pre-medicina, sabía que iba estudiar ciencia porque es en lo que estaba interesada. No estaba segura en que quería enfocarme primero, pero cuando empecé mi clase de microbiología y empecé hacer investigaciones sobre el área, sabía que quería estudiar las dos microbiología y biología.

Mi experiencia en el departamento de biología ha sido excelente. Los profesores siempre brindan ayuda, he aprendido mucho durante toda mi carrera en UTA. Hay muchos programas y servicios, como tutorías adicionales para los estudiantes que lo necesiten, y varias oportunidades paraque los estudiantes puedan crecer. Si los estudiantes presentan dificultades en alguna clase siempre hay personas que están dispuestas ayudar.

Además, UTA tiene una muy buena comunidad en lo que tiene que ver con las organizaciones estudiantiles. Hay una gran cantidad de organizaciones en el campus, y si estas interesado en algo, probablemente hay una organización sobre lo que te interese. Soy parte de una gran comunidad porque estoy en una de las organizaciones estudiantiles.

Específicamente, estoy en la Asociación Minoritaria de Estudiantes de Pre-Medicina y he estado en esta organización durante toda mi carrera de pregrado. He adquirido muchas habilidades diferentes, como el liderazgo y la gestión de equipos, porque he estado en muchos puestos oficiales diferentes y he asumido una mayor responsabilidad con el paso del tiempo. Además, a través de las organizaciones estudiantiles podemos hacer una mayor diferencia en nuestro campus de UTA e ir más allá retribuyendo a nuestra comunidad juntos.

Sobre todo, pienso que los amigos que he hecho son una parte importante de mi estadía en UTA. Me siento agradecida por los amigos que he hecho acá porque ellos van a ser mis amigos toda mi vida.
