African American Students Social Work Alliance (AASWSA)

Our goal is to uphold the ethical and guiding principles of the National Association of Social Workers. We will strive to empower, to promote equality, to end discrimination, oppression, poverty, and other forms of social injustice and positively impact our campus and surrounding community with educational events, networking, community service, and fundraisers.

Gerontology Organization

The Gerontology Organization (GO) is a registered UTA student organization for all social work students, BSW, MSW or PhD levels, who want to gain leadership and practice skills in geriatric and gerontology social work to complement their academic work. Student members in GO create a better quality of life for older adults while building a strong foundation for the future, as leaders in the field of Social Work. The faculty advisor is Dr. Ling Xu (lingxu@uta.edu).

What We Do

GO gives social work undergraduate and graduate students a place to come together to explore their interests and enhance their skills in working with older adults. GO provides opportunities to enrich students' collegiate experience in the School of Social Work at UTA through networking and collaboration with UTA School of Social Work faculty and community geriatric social workers (e.g., clinicians, case managers, aging agency administrators) through sponsored events, guest speakers at meetings, volunteering with older adults, and fundraising activities. We also raise awareness of the workforce needs for trained social workers to practice with older adults in the DFW community and beyond.
