Requirements for Minor in African American Studies

Students must complete six classes (18 credit hours) in order to earn a degree in African American Studies.

Only two of these courses are required:

  1. Introduction to African American Studies, and
  2. One of the following courses
    • African American History,
    • Contemporary Black Experience,
    • Racial and Ethnic Groups in the United States
    • Human Behavior and Diverse Populations

The remaining 12 hours include a diverse set of elective courses across the following departments.

  • Anthropology
  • Criminology/Criminal Justice
  • Economics
  • English
  • Linguistics
  • Management
  • Music
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Sociology
