Student Development
The Center for African American Studies offers two programs to assist students in establishing community and graduating from UT Arlington. These are our Emerging Scholars Program (ESP) and our Emerging Leaders Initiative (ELI).
Emerging Scholars Program
The mission of CAAS’ Emerging Scholars Program is to help first year students transition to college life by providing educational, cultural, and social support. Our purpose is to create a formal framework for supporting students by implementing meaningful academic and life-enhancing programs and activities.
Emerging Leaders Initiative
The mission of CAAS’ Emerging Leaders Initiative to continue to support students who are in at least their second year of college. ELI students serve as mentors to ESP students, and also participate in programs and activities designed to enhance community, raise awareness, and expose them to a wide range of career opportunities.
