Statement on the injustice of Breonna Taylor

The Center for African American Studies stands continues to be a champion for peace and justice, and stands in solidarity with all those protesting the wrongful death of Breonna Taylor. On September 23, 2020 many people listened with hopefulness that the officers responsible for her death would face criminal charges. Unfortunately, the ruling resulted in none of the officers being charged.

The killing of non-threatening, unarmed Black citizens by police must cease. We must continue to practice civil disobedience in pronouncing that Black Lives Matter, and by implementing new policies that enhance oversight and transparency within law enforcement agencies.

We cannot get weary on this journey! Our tears must be our energy, and our rage must be our strength. Otherwise, our nation will continue to fall short of recognizing that all humans must be treated with decency, dignity and equal rights.
