Changing the World By Strengthening Public Affairs Practice
The Department of Public Affairs prepares students to be leaders in the creation of environmentally and economically sustainable, healthy communities that enhance quality of life. Graduates pursue professional careers such as policy analysts, advocates, government liaisons, nonprofit executives, city managers and faculty of institutions of higher education. The programs within the department are designed to encompass the wealth of learning, research and professional opportunities that the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area provides.
Degrees offered within the department include the Masters of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public Policy (MPP), and the doctoral degree in Public and Urban Administration (PUAD). All programs are multidisciplinary in character, curriculum content, and faculty. Students are encouraged to be actively engaged in their learning experience, with the aim of benefiting both students and the communities with whom they work. Students benefit from the opportunity to work closely with faculty who publish on topics related to public administration, nonprofit management, sociology, economic, and public policy. The mission of the department is to provide a stimulating and inclusive environment for intellectual curiosity, rigorous inquiry, and creativity for developing new knowledge to strengthen public affairs practice.
