School of Architecture Alumnus named to AIA College of Fellows

FORT WORTH, Texas – March 26, 2015– Freese and Nichols, Inc. principal Alfred Vidaurri, Jr. , FAIA, NCARB, AICP, LEED® AP, has been elevated to the American Institute of Architects’ prestigious College of Fellows, one the profession’s highest honors.

This year there were a total of 147 AIA members nationwide named to the College of Fellows, with 14 of them practicing in Texas.

“Alfred represents the absolute best of the best in the architectural profession and has been a tremendous leader and visionary for our firm,” said Bob Pence, president and CEO of Freese and Nichols. “We are delighted that his peers have recognized his many accomplishments and contributions to the profession, including his commitment to creating a path for cross-border certification among Mexico, the United States and Canada.”

Vidaurri’s other professional accolades include the 2014 President’s Medal for Distinguished Service from the National Council of Architectural Registrations Boards (NCARB), and his appointment to the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners in 2004 by former Gov. Rick Perry. He has served as chair of the Board for 8 years and has been instrumental in the governance and oversight of the practice of architecture in Texas.

Vidaurri and the other new members of the College of Fellows will be lauded at an investiture ceremony during the AIA National Convention May 14-16 in Atlanta.

Vidaurri joined Freese and Nichols’ Architecture Group in 1994. He expanded the firm’s practice areas to include higher education, health care, campus planning and sustainability, and broadened the firm’s services to encompass landscape architecture, interior design, and urban planning.

Vidaurri is a registered architect in multiple states, a certified AICP planner, and a registered interior designer. He is based in Freese and Nichols' Fort Worth office as a Vice President and Principal. Vidaurri holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington.
