The Dallas Festival of Ideas, held on February 20, 2016, included a session titled The Physical City. This presentation took place in collaboration with Earth Day Texas and The David Dillon Center for Texas Architecture at UTA's College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs. The panel included Kate Canales (research professor and director of design and innovation programs at the Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University), Peer F. Chacko, AICP (planning officer and director of the Department of Planning and Urban Design of the City of Dallas), Inga Saffron (Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer), and Ron Stelmarski, AIA, LEED AP (design director for Perkins+Will). The Physical City was moderated by Mark Lamster, award-winning architectural critic for The Dallas Morning News and CAPPA professor of architecture.

The panel discussed the future of work in the 21st Century city, and whether downtown and suburban areas should compete for workplace growth or cooperate to strike the right balance. The session was held on the Main Stage of the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas.
