Landscape Architecture Professor Richards featured in Arlington Today
January 14, 2015
Professor James Richards from the Landscape Architecture program at UT Arlington's School of Architecture, was recently featured in Arlington Today, in a January 2, 2015 article, "Drawing from Experience", by Arlington Today contributor Alison Dellenbaugh.
The article discussed Professor Richards's career in landscape architecture, including a book he recently authored, Freehand Drawing and Discovery: Urban Sketching and Concept Drawing for Designers, which received a national Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in 2014.
"I sketch everything, especially ideas," Richards said in the article. "Learning to capture thoughts with rapid concept drawing is a wonderful tool for exploring and developing ideas, and for sharing them with others for feedback. It's a discipline at least as old as Leonardo's notebooks, and most serious designers I know keep a visual idea book."
Professor Richards has taught at UT Arlington's School of Architecture as a full-time faculty member since 2012. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
