Alumni-Student Mentorship Program

What is MavMentors?

MavMentors is a mentorship program through the University of Texas at Arlington that includes students, alumni, and employers. The program runs year round and primarily focuses on building connections between students, alumni, and employers through networking and other events. The emphasis on the program is to share connection moments and in-the-moment advice with one another. There is no commitment to the program at any time. You may attend as many or as few of events as you desire.

Are there any requirements for being in the MavMentors program?

  • Only UTA students, alumni, and employers in the UTA Handshake system are permitted to join at the current time.
  • If you are a student and plan on entering into a mentoring relationship, you must fill out this mentee commitment and email it to careers@uta.edu
  • If you are an alumni or employer and plan on entering into a mentoring relationship, you must fill out this mentor commitment and email it to careers@uta.edu.

How does the program work?

  • All students and alumni will be emailed when a MavMentors event is taking place.
  • If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to the event through the link provided in the email sent to you.
  • We recommend all students, alumni, and employers read through the Mav Mentor Handbook located in the link on the upper left portion of this page.

Alumni: Why be a mentor?

  • Provide information and guidance to your mentee by sharing professional and educational experiences helping to pave the way for the success of future UTA students.
  • Prepare future alumni for post-graduation success.
  • Stay connected with UTA as an alumnus.
  • Develop a professional network and meaningful connections with other UTA alumni and future alumni.

Students: Why be a mentee?

  • Learn from an industry or business professional.
  • Share professional and educational goals while broadening your network.
  • Gain the skills and confidence necessary to excel while building a relationship that will inspire, encourage, and support you in your future endeavors.
  • Develop a professional network and meaningful connections with other UTA alumni and future alumni.
  • Connect real world experience to academics by acquiring valuable advice from a mentor’s experiences.
  • Receive guidance and coaching to meet the challenges of transitioning to a professional role after graduation.
  • Ask questions and have honest conversations with some who’s been there.
