Alumni-Student Mentorship Program

What is MavMentors?

MavMentors is an alumni-student mentorship program through the University of Texas at Arlington. The program runs year round, so you can start a new mentor/mentee relationship at any time. UTA utilizes a state-of-the-art system that allows you to choose your mentor. Once you create a profile you will be able to search for possible mentors. Are there any requirements for being in the MavMentors program?

  • Prior to meeting with your mentor/mentee, you will need to review the Mav Mentor Handbook.
  • Only UTA students and alumni are permitted to join at the current time.
  • You must utilize CampusTap for mentor/mentee contacts for time and meeting locations.

How does the program work?

  • First, read through the Mav Mentor Handbook located in the link on the upper left portion of this page. Then, follow the instructions below:
  • If you are interested in participating as a mentor you will need to complete an online application.
        • Be sure to answer questions and fill out your profile as completely as possible and indicate you want to be a mentor, you will be matched with potential mentees based on your responses.
        • Once your profile is created it will be viewable to students through the CampusTap database. Students interested in a mentorship will connect with you there.
        • You will receive an automated email from CampusTap whenever a potential mentee has contacted you.
        • If you choose, you can end your participation in the MavMentors program at any time by editing your profile. You will still be connected as a UTA alumni in CampusTap even if you choose to end your participation in MavMentors.
  • If you are interested in participating as a mentee, login through your HIREAMAV account.
        • Once logged in, click ‘Resources’ in the upper right hand corner of the page. Under Resources click MavMentor Program.
        • In the MavMentor Program article click the Sign up or login in now link. You will be directed to a website run by CampusTap. Create a profile through CampusTap.
        • Be sure to answer questions and fill out your profile as completely as possible, potential mentors will be suggested based upon your responses.
        • To view a mentor’s profile, click the mentor’s name. Once you have found a mentor you would like to reach out to, click the Contact Mentor button located toward the top of their profile. A message box should appear for you to send to the mentor.
        • Once you have typed your message, click the Send button. (Do not send more than one message to the same mentor). You will receive an automated message from CampusTap whenever a mentor has contacted you.
        • If you choose, you can end your participation in the MavMentors program at any time by editing your profile. You will still be connected as a UTA alumni in CampusTap even if you choose to end your participation in MavMentors.

  • Develop a professional network and meaningful connections with other UTA alumni and future alumni.

  • Learn from an industry or business professional.
  • Share professional and educational goals while broadening your network.
  • Gain the skills and confidence necessary to excel while building a relationship that will inspire, encourage, and support you in your future endeavors.
  • Develop a professional network and meaningful connections with other UTA alumni and future alumni.
  • Connect real world experience to academics by acquiring valuable advice from a mentor’s experiences.
  • Receive guidance and coaching to meet the challenges of transitioning to a professional role after graduation.
  • Ask questions and have honest conversations with some who’s been there.
