UTA's SEI Graduate Student Chapter has received the 2017 SEI Graduate Student Chapter of the Year Award in recognition of its exemplary activities and efforts to advance the structural engineering profession and the growth of SEI from the local and higher education level.
The chapter will be recognized for the award during the Plenary Lunch and Awards Program at the Structures Congress in Denver in April.
The chapter is currently in its fourth year of activities. Under the guidance of faculty advisor Dr. Nur Yazdani, the organization has grown not only in membership numbers but also activity levels, number of events, and their quality. The objective of the chapter is to enhance the student knowledge in structural engineering and ensure a smooth transition from college to the workplace. The experience gained by students will help them excel in their professional life, contribute to structural engineering, and be positive members of society.
The UTA-GSC is able to accomplish so much given the busy schedule of a typical structural engineering graduate student. In addition to monthly meetings, the organization hosts site tours led by faculty members, software training sessions, guest speakers, webinars, design workshops and ASCE meetings. The chapter also participates in SEI Local Activities Division Conferences.
