After a 33-year academic career, Dr. Sia Ardekani has decided to retire and move to Austin to enjoy the company of his extended family, including his first grandchild, Ronan.
Dr. Ardekani joined UTA as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering in 1989 after a four-year stint at Virginia Tech. He rose quickly through the ranks to become Department Chair in 1999, serving for six years, or as he puts it, for six years, two months and five days.
He received a number of teaching and research awards during his 29-year tenure at UTA, including the Halliburton College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching award and the President’s Excellence in Teaching award. He was also the UTA nominee for the UT System Piper Award for Teaching Excellence and, more recently, the UTA nominee for the UT System Regent’s teaching award. He was inducted into the UTA Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2014.
