Accelerated Online & Traditional Online Programs

Generally, after submitting your application and required materials, it undergoes a thorough review process that may take upwards of two weeks. Admissions committees carefully assess each application to make informed decisions. Candidates will be notified of their application decision by email.

Our fully online programs are open to United States Citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and International Students who do not hold F1, J1, B1, and B2 status. In addition to the required application and admission documents, the following materials must also be submitted:

• Lawful Permanent Residents: Submit a copy of your Permanent Resident Card.
• The TOEFL or IELTS is required if an applicant’s native language is not English or if the applicant does not hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution. It typically takes 10-15 business days for scores to arrive from ETS and be processed by Admissions. The test must be taken in time for results to arrive and be processed in Admissions before completion of the second course. Those wishing to request a waiver of this requirement should contact the graduate advisor.


When choosing individuals to write your recommendation letters, it is important to consider utilizing the following types of individuals: 

• Academic References: Professors or instructors who have taught you in relevant courses and can speak to your academic abilities, performance, and potential for success in the program.
• Professional References: Employers, supervisors, or mentors who can attest to your professional skills, work ethic, and qualifications related to the program or field you are applying to.
Out-of-state students who do not complete the practicum at a UTA College of Education and TEA-approved site and meet all other TEA requirements do not qualify to be recommended for Texas educator certification. If you are an out-of-state student interested in seeking certification outside of Texas, please work with the state agency in the state in which you are seeking certification to determine eligibility and complete any additional requirements.   • Strong Academic Performance: Focus on achieving high grades in relevant courses and maintaining a competitive GPA. Demonstrating academic excellence showcases your ability to succeed in the program.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Seek letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your abilities, character, and potential for success in the program. Choose recommenders who can provide meaningful insights into your qualifications and strengths.
  • Timely Submission: Ensure that all application materials, including transcripts, program essays, and letters of recommendation, are submitted well before the deadline. Late applications may not receive the same level of consideration.

No, the Tuition Scholarship is only offered to eligible, admitted students for designated programs within the College of Education. 

The following programs are eligible:

  • M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction - Literacy Studies 
  • M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction - Mathematics Education 
  • M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction - Science Education 
  • M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, with Principal Certificate Courses 
  • Principal Certification Preparation Only

Undergraduate Questions

Pursuing a bachelor's degree through the College of Education. Review our FAQ. 

EC-6 and Mid-Level students major in Education ("Education Intended") and will be advised only by an Education advisor. These students first work on their core and basic content courses before entering the Education program. The program itself is a two-year blocked cohort schedule of courses which only begins in the Fall semester (once a student begins the program, he/she is changed from "Education Intended" to "Interdisciplinary Studies) . Secondary and All-Level students major in their content area and should first meet with their content advisor. When they are ready to begin their Education coursework, they should meet with an Education advisor. They will work with both these advisors to ensure they meet all the requirements for their degree and certification. You can read the Secondary/All-Level FAQs for more information.

UTA Scholarships

UTA offers many scholarships, grants, and other forms of financial aid. The College of Education has compiled a list of several opportunities on the Paying for School page. There may be additional options not listed.

Outside Scholarships

Students are also welcome to apply for external, non-UTA scholarships. Outside scholarships include any funding received from sources other than UTA, the state, or the federal government. Awards sent by foundations, civic and religious organizations or companies are common examples of outside scholarships. Students should independently vet scholarships before applying. Be suspicious of scholarships that ask for money in order to apply or receive funds. Details are online.

The options listed below may be helpful.

TeachDFW.org is a non-profit organization who partners with EPP’s to help with program recruitment efforts. We provide future DFW teachers 1-on-1 career advising, $1K scholarships (multiples), how-to guides from experts, $100 towards application/testing fees, and more through TeachDFW. We also help to share information about events, deadlines, and more! Again, this is FREE to the EPP’s and anyone who signs up with TeachDFW.

You must first apply to The University of Texas at Arlington; you can check the Admissions website for more information. Once you are admitted, you should make an appointment with a College of Education advisor by calling 817-272-2956. In this appointment, we will fill out a degree plan, check your academic standing and go over an advising agreement. In the meantime, feel free to browse this website for information or e-mail an advisor with your general questions.

You can give us a call at 817-272-2956 to schedule a prospective advising appointment. Please send unofficial transcripts from all colleges/universities you have attended so we can better assist you. We'd prefer they be sent at least 1 day prior to the scheduled appointment; however, if this is not possible, please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow the advisor to prepare.

To be considered for use on your degree plan, transfer Education courses must be upper-level courses with earned grades of ‘B’ or better. You must research possible substitutions on your own. Compile course syllabi and descriptions of these potential substitutions and let the Education advisor know which courses you'd like to be reviewed. All decisions are made by Program faculty, Program Coordinators and/or Department Chair.

No. If you hold a Bachelor’s degree in any area, you must pursue teacher certification at the graduate level. The graduate advisors have their own advising portal which you can read for more information.
