Upcoming changes to undergraduate degrees

We are excited to announce that the University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Education will be changing the title and code of our existing College of Education Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (BAIS) to a Bachelor of Arts in Education and our existing Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (BSIS) to a Bachelor of Science in Education. This change reflects a positive focus on the profession of education.

How does this change affect students?

Students who complete their respective degree after December 31, 2020, will graduate with a BA or a BS in Education, depending on program of study (e.g., BA in Education for EC-6 Bilingual ESL program, BS in Education for 4-8 Middle-Level Math/Science program).

Students who complete their degree before December 31, 2020, may request to stay with their current degree title or move to the BA or BS in Education (dependent on program of study), under certain conditions:

  • Students who are graduating in May 2020 must make the request to change to the new degree title by emailing Teaira Little at tlittle@uta.edu and your advisor no later than March 6. Students who do not make the request by the deadline will remain under their current degree title (if graduating by December 2020).

  • Students who are graduating in August 2020 must make the request to change to the new degree title by contacting Teaira Little at tlittle@uta.edu and your advisor no later than June 15, 2020. Students who do not make the request by the deadline will remain under their current degree title (if graduating by December 2020).

  • Students who are graduating in December 2020 must make the request to change to the new degree title by contacting Teaira Little at tlittle@uta.edu and your advisor no later than September 21, 2020. Students who do not make the request by the deadline will remain under their current degree title (if graduating by December 2020).

Students who have not graduated by December 2020 automatically will be moved to the new degree title as the BA/BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Education will expire.
