Overview

Students can apply for general university scholarships year-round but are encouraged to apply when accepted to the university. The Mav ScholarShop lists the available scholarships and the criteria necessary to apply.  Search for scholarships using the scholarship title or keywords.

The College of Nursing and Health Innovation has more than 50 scholarships to award to qualified students each spring and fall semester. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and financial need. 

• Complete the online application here: UTA Mav ScholarShop. Nursing applications must be completed and submitted by the listed deadline.
  • Fall scholarships open February 14th through April 1st
  • Spring scholarships open August 15th through October 1st
• Recommended to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA) available online (not required for all scholarships – check specific scholarship requirements)

Scholarship recipients are notified of their award through UTA Mav ScholarShop. Recipients must accept their award and write a thank you letter to the donor prior to disbursement.  Scholarships are typically disbursed approximately 10 days prior to the start of the semester or start of the course.

Undergraduate Nursing Scholarships

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, students must be a declared nursing major.  Scholarships are awarded to students who have completed their first semester (12 semester credit hours) of upper-division nursing coursework.  A minimum GPA 3.0 is required for academic scholarships; a limited number of scholarships based on financial need are available to students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or 2.75.

Graduate Nursing Scholarships

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, students must have completed a minimum of six semester credits of UTA graduate nursing courses with a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0.

Other scholarship considerations may include:

• Financial need
• Volunteer activities
• Leadership experience
• Specialty scholarships are available for students with an identified interest in these areas:
• Nursing Administration 
• FNP students in a rural setting
• Complementary/Integrative Mod., Addiction and/or Psych-Mental Health
• Adult NP - Who plans to work in hospice & palliative care or geriatrics

Available Fellowships

The Mary Lou Bond Fellowship provides support to PhD candidates in UT Arlington’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation for their dissertation research.

The Kathryn M. Daniel Gerontology Graduate Fellowship will be used to fund graduate fellowships for students pursuing degree paths focused on older adults such as Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Nursing Practice, or PhD degrees.

The Ferne C. Newman Kyba Fellowship provides support for dissertation research to selected PhD candidates.

The John and Louise Schira Fellowship provides support to students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, to fund activities associated with the conduct and/or dissemination of the Scholarly Project.

United Service Association for Health Care Graduate Fellowship Endowment provides support to outstanding graduate student’s research specifically related to Pediatrics or Geriatrics.

Nursing Graduate Students Planning to Teach Tuition Waiver

Students applying for a graduate program who are registered nurses authorized to practice professional nursing in Texas who would otherwise be required to pay non-Texas resident tuition may be allowed to pay Texas resident tuition rates by applying for this tuition waiver.

Department of Kinesiology & Public Health Scholarships

Questions about scholarships should be addressed to your professors and academic advisor.

Undergraduate KINE Scholarships

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, students must be enrolled as a KINE major with at least 12-15 hours completed and at least one remaining semester of coursework. A minimum GPA 2.75 is required for the majority of academic scholarships, but some have a GPA requirement of 3.0. 

Other considerations for scholarships may include:

• Financial need
• Intended career (i.e., PE teacher)
• Volunteer activities and Leadership experience
• Unique situations like age and/or family history

Graduate Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) Scholarships

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, students must be enrolled as MSAT major with at least one semester completed and one remaining semester of coursework. A minimum GPA 3.0 is required for the academic scholarships.

Other considerations for scholarships may include:

• Financial need
• Volunteer activities and Leadership experience
