Welcome to the home page for the 2017 ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp at The University of Texas at Arlington. The camp is a two-week residential experience
for thirty-six 6th, 7th and 8th grade (2017-2018 school year) students from the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex (addresses within the boundaries of Region X and Region XI Education Service Centers of the Texas Education Agency, which includes: Dallas, Tarrant, Johnson, Ellis, Denton, Wise, and Collin counties).
June 3
A mandatory orientation session will be held for selected campers and parents/guardians from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The camper and at least one parent or guardian must attend this session.
June 11 to June 23
Camper drop-off and the opening ceremony will occur on Sunday, June 11 between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Campers will spend part of the middle weekend at home. They must be picked up on Saturday, June 17th
between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM and return to UTA on Sunday, June 18th between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Final camper pick-up and the closing ceremony will occur on Friday, June 23.
There is no tuition for this summer camp, and 36 campers will be selected. To be eligible for this free camp, students must:
- Be historically underserved and underrepresented students with limited opportunities
- Be entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the fall of 2017
- Have at least a B average in mathematics and science courses
- Score at least at the median level on STAAR math and science tests
- Write a 250 word essay
- Be recommended by their current math and science teachers
The Student Application form, records and recommendations must be turned in to the UT Arlington College of Science by April 28th (deadline extended).
