Campus Carry Committee

Dear members of the UTA Community,

The right of individuals with a license to carry concealed handguns to bring them onto a public college campus commences Monday, August 1. The law known as “campus carry” was passed by the Texas Legislature and UTA’s recommendations for implementing it on our campus have been accepted by the University of Texas Board of Regents.

You should not notice a difference after this date, as the law allows for concealed handguns only. There will be some new signage as required by law in specific places and there are several designated areas to which no handguns may be carried. The university will not provide storage facilities for guns.

Please note that policies vary from university to university, and what may be allowed at one is not necessarily allowed at others.

UTA’s campus carry website has extensive information on implementation of the law. Please consult the site for the most updated information including the UTA Campus Carry Policies and Procedures.

We will be sending out a series of communications in the coming days to share additional useful materials with you such as a Training presentation and other information.

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is of utmost importance to university leadership, and we care deeply about providing a secure and nurturing learning and research environment. Thank you to all who provided feedback and suggestions for fashioning our campus carry policy, and we wish you a fruitful new academic year at The University of Texas at Arlington.

Sincerely,

The UTA Campus Carry Committee
